Future Connections: Creating Tomorrow's Workforce Through a Community Mentoring Program
University Circle Incorporated is a unique one-square mile area which includes cultural, educational, medical, religious, and social services institutions. The Future Connections Program was designed by University Circle Incorporated to offer a cultural institution and a business internship experience to sophomores and juniors from the Cleveland Municipal School District. The internship exposes students to various careers while furthering their knowledge and skills related to their own academic and career goals. The Kelvin Smith Library has partnered with UCI for the past five years. The Library's program introduces students to the diverse field of librarianship, literacy skills for lifelong learning, new information technologies, and the basic operations of departments within the Library.
The outcome of the program is to provide students with a connection between learning and the real world and for the Library, an investment in a better qualified workforce.
