Portfolio based learning has seen a huge growth accross the education sector in the last decade, nurse education like many educational programmes that aim to develop skills alongside knowledge have used portfolios to support learning. The development of key/transferable skills within programmes require teaching and learning strategies that encourage and foster the students ability to self assess and take responsibility for the devlopment of such skills. The portfolio approach encourages this development. This paper will also highlight how these key/transferable skills may be used to enhance employability.
