I teach multiple sections of Guitar in a high school setting. This instrument which can be played in so many styles, also can be learned in many ways. In my Guitar I classes I believe that this introductory course should be a sampler of many of the possibilities that guitar has to offer as one learns to play. I set out to explore how adapting my multi-faceted approach to concentrate more on reading could be used to increase success in teaching guitarists to read music via standard notation, the method used by most musicians to communicate.
