The study attempted to examine an alternative method that could be used in facilitating adult learning for sustainance of adult literacy classes and learners' interests. Specifically, the study was concerned with the problems of retention in literacy classes. Fifty artisans of different categories, including market women were randomly drawn from each of the three local government areas selected for the study. Data collected from continuous assessment and attendance records, tests, self and group assessments, supervisors' remarks, and external assessors from the state Ministry of Education, were analysed using simple percentages. Findings revealed that attendance and participation of adult learners were very impressive. Ninety-nine percent of those enrolled completed and passed the final examinations. There was increased proficiency in the reading ability and application of knowledge in learners' various vocations. Learners became more functional with better communicating skills in their communities.
